Today I have a super easy recipe that’s fun for the kids to help out with. You can really add anything to customize these to your taste. I made another batch recently with avocado in the centers, rolled in diced green onion and toasted sesame seeds with a sweet teriyaki sauce for dipping on the side. Think sushi rolls without all the fuss. You could even roll them in a bit of flaked seaweed for that exact taste. The possibilities are truly endless, that’s why I love creating from simple bases. Hope you all enjoy this quick recipe!
Turmeric Rice Balls
(Serves 1-2 Yields 8-10)
8 oz. Short Grain Brown Rice
1/2 tsp Turmeric
1/2 tsp Black Chia Seeds, ground
1/2 tsp Golden Flax Seeds, ground
1/2 tsp Onion Powder
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
1/4 tsp Chili Powder
Himalayan Pink Salt, to taste
Splash of water or rice vinegar, to bind/mix
Prep ahead your short grain brown rice and let it cool to room temperature.
In a medium bowl, mix together your rice and all seasonings plus superfoods listed above.
Use a splash of water or rice vinegar to help combine everything, not too much though.
Let the rice set for 2-5 minutes to bind.
Using a small bowl, like a sauce bowl, line it with plastic wrap that goes above the sides.
Scoop a golf ball amount (or smaller) of rice into the bowl, feel free to add a filling in the middle if you’d like. Such as avocado or veggies.
Grab the sides of the plastic wrap and squeeze all the air out. Twisting and shaping the rice to form a ball.
Unwrap it and let it sit on a non-stick surface, repeat with the rest of the rice.
Sprinkle sesame seeds on a flat surface and roll each rice ball till evenly coated.
You can toast the sesame seeds ahead of time or once completed, you can put all the rice balls onto a baking sheet and bake at 425 degrees F for 8-10 minutes to toast the seeds and reheat the rice.
Serve warm with teriyaki sauce or a sweet chili sauce for dipping, enjoy.
