Today I wanted to do something a little different on the blog. I’m sharing information about a movement that needs to happen and the incredible woman that’s behind it all.
Amanda, from Craving Thirty, is a determined and glowing soul. I’m genuinely so inspired by her dedication to uplift and teach women everywhere that self love is empowering and the key to our successes in life.
Today I’ll be sharing an interview I had with her, as well as information on how you can get involved with supporting and spreading the word on this incredible movement.
1) What is The Self Love Project?
The Self Love Project is a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop and distribute mentoring curriculum that empowers women and girls to listen to their intuition, and learn to trust and nurture themselves as they navigate change in their lives, become leaders, and initiate transformation in their communities.
2) What made you want to develop The Self Love Project?
When I was a child, I always wanted someone to realize who I was, to notice me and see me as special. I yearned for someone to take me under their wing, teach me and bring me up to be an amazing adult version of myself. I wanted a mentor. And, while I’m lucky to have had several people who have taken it upon themselves to mentor me, I still spent years trying to figure out what my place is in the world. It has been a lengthy process. My hope is that The Self Love Project will provide a platform where girls and young women can find the tools and support they need to trust their inner voice and innate knowledge of who they are. And in turn, make life decisions from this place of confidence.
3) How do you see this movement effecting our generation and future generations to come? Is it a positive effect?
I definitely see this movement positively effecting our generation and future generations. The fact is, the
economic and job landscape isn’t what it was 10 or 20 years ago. Young women today need to be savvier, smarter, even more well-rounded and awesome to make any sort of impression in today’s market. The Self Love Project’s goal is to ensure that young women learn to make decisions that are uniquely right for them – not anyone else – as they become the leaders and change-makers they were born to be.
4) What are your future plans with implementing this curriculum?
Our goal is to have the pilot program run in the fall of 2015. We are hoping to start a conversation about creating self-love, and what girls and women want out of a mentoring program so that we can incorporate those needs into the curriculum.
Eventually, I’d like to see The Self Love Project available in all schools across the US, but also internationally. My vision is to build a network with platforms readily available like Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, where women and girls can come to feel supported in their goals and aspirations.
5) How can I get involved with The Self Love Project?
There are many ways to get involved. We are launching our first mini-fundraising campaign: Cleanse for a Cause, a guided group cleanse starting August 12th. 30% of the proceeds will benefit The Self Love Project. If we get 30 people signed up, that’s our first $1,500 donation!
Currently we are seeking donors to give seed money so we can start on the development of the curriculum. Ideally, I’d like to dedicate all of my time to this project, but for that, we’ll need money.
Otherwise we are looking for experienced grant-writers to help us get started, as well as social media enthusiasts to spread the word.
What we need will always be available in our FAQs section on our website: theselfloveproject.net, and people can stay up-to-date through our updates, which we’ve been updating a few times a week.
If you would like to help out The Self Love Project, you can sign up for Cleanse for a Cause here (deadline to reserve your spot is August 6th). All the info will be in the link below!
The Mise en Place eBook that the Cleanse for a Cause is focused around is an amazing tool. I’ve learned so much reading it as well as enjoying the balance in food with all the yummy recipes.
